My archives might be a little outdated especially the older blogs. My links above are all new and current.

I have only positive things to say about Permission to Mother, an autobiographical account of a thoughtful mother and clinician who courageously writes from her heart, soul, brain, and personal experience; who is open to change in her views and opinions and is not guided by the safety of rules of any group or the status quo; she is guided by love and openness to the experiences life brings her and her family. Her process benefits her and those around her and those who read her words. And to add to that, the writing style and story telling ability here make it a very enjoyable read speckled with both the humor and seriousness of life. ~Laura Keegan RN FNP, author of Breastfeeding with Comfort and Joy

Unveiling the Cover of My Book

I am happy to share the cover of my book!

Cover Photo "Joan and Onika-- In Tune with Nature"

Joan gave me the idea for a title in a note she wrote me 4 1/2 years ago. "It's almost like you've given us "permission" … to nurse just the way we want to, for how long we want to." Her note stuck with me and so did this photo I took of her in her beautiful garden. What I learned from her birth also stuck with me and is included in my book.

My friend Melissa Walter, who I've known from college, designed the front and back cover.

Thank you so much for designing this beautiful cover, Melissa!

It's Beautiful! You know what's funny about it?! This is one of those pictures I remember and think of often when nursing and when outdoors nursing! How peaceful :D

"...my book." How refreshing to hear you say that! I remember the early days when I asked you to write for Mother to Mother. Your tentativeness in your writing abilities has blossomed into an assuredness that what you have experienced is worth sharing. Thank you for taking the time and expending your energy for this task! I feel privileged to know many of the women featured in your book. Makes for more interesting reading! Blessings to you, Denise.

Catalina, I am glad this is the kind of photo you think of when you want to relax and nurse. That is why the photo is hanging in my office and why it is chosen for the book (well... one of the many reasons). I like photos of women who are relaxed and enjoy breastfeeding.

Bernadette, I had to get used to saying "my book" .... it felt weird to me to write it out.

It's easy for me to write when I have you and so many others more recently probing my thoughts and making me define and rethink and explain... I like the challenge.

Denise
